We have spent the last 3 years researching all aspects of sustainable production and we are very excited to present to you the Light & Gravity infant and toddler line. It has taken us three years to introduce this eco-line because we wanted every aspect of production to come as close as possible to being sustainable. And, by this we mean that the resources taken into production do as little harm to the environment as possible. Our ideal production cycle is one where no aspect of production diminishes our planet's resources and perhaps even contributes to our planet's well-being. We are not there yet but this is the goal we are working towards. We are avid fans of the Cradle to Cradle philosophy by William McDonough and Michael Braungart of making things that are ecologically intelligent.
In our office we:
- recycle,
- use alternative energy to power our presses,
- use all non-toxic cleaners in every aspect of production,
- use recycled or biodegradable packaging,
- order office products with the highest post-consumer content and lowest energy usage,
- use low-impact dyes,
- print with water-based inks,
- cut and sew locally when possible,
- use organic SKAL certified pieces or organic pieces made by American Apparel,
- use organic cotton, soy, bamboo, wool and other more sustainable fabrics,
- are members of Coop America,
- won a sustainability award (Blue Works) from the City of Portland for recycling in 2006-07.
